What does Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, Dave Brubeck's Time Out, Charles Mingus' Ah Um, Ornette Coleman's Shape of Jazz to Come all have in common? Believe it or not, all four were released in 1959(!)...all four of these monumental albums hit the music world in 1959, arguably one of the most influential years in jazz. This week's show will explore music from these albums as well as other influential tracks from that year. In addition to listening to this week's show, I encourage you to enjoy (via YouTube) the fantastic BBC Four documentary, "1959: The Year That Changed Jazz," a fabulously concise, rich, and compelling documentary profiling four albums from this groundbreaking year in jazz. Tune in to this week's "live" episode Tuesday at 9AM to listen to (and re-discover) the impact of 1959. If you can't catch the "live" show, you can always catch the all-music, 24/7 station. Thanks for listening!
