Which Direction? (playlist #133)

“direction” by gbmediadesign

This week’s show moved in a number of notable musical directions. Saxophonist, Roscoe Mitchell has a new release, Discussions (and more info here) an album that explores and challenges with its textural freeform sounds and open compositional spaces. Shared during the show was Mitchell’s “Discussions I” a track that typifies the musical direction of this excellent album. The Ed Palermo Big Band revisit Zappa and explore Todd Rundgren in their latest, The Adventures of Zodd Zundgren. I couldn’t resist playing their cover of Zappa’s “Peaches En Regalia.” The show ended with a three song set featuring music inspired by one of my favorite visual artists, Friedensreich Hundertwasser. This was a product of serendipity meets spur of the moment—a spontaneous music search, where I fully expected to not find much. Quite the opposite, I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least, and you can listen to all three tracks featured by checking out this week’s playlist, where you will also find all the varied music featured on this week’s broadcast—including “sunshine pop” from The Free Design!

Don't forget that you can listen to all of the music from the last episode, “Choices” (click here). This week's artwork, “direction” is an altered image created by yours truly. Thanks for listening!
