Of Bass and Birthday

Chris Lightcap and Jaco Pastorius

Big news this past week in the "alloy sphere"—the first podcast episode of Alloy: A Mixture of Music and Conversation was released and is now freely available (and free!). The premier episode features my in-depth conversation with bassist, composer, and recording artist, Chris Lightcap. This week's show will feature a few excerpts from that recorded conversation with Chris, as well as related music from Chris' music catalog. If you miss this week's show, know that you may download and listen to the Alloy podcast anytime/anywhere via your podcast player of choice.

Another bass player will take center stage during this week's episode—the incomparable Jaco Pastorius. Jaco passed away at the all too young age of 35, and this Tuesday the Norristown, PA born musician would have celebrated his 64th birthday. Wow. Time flies...and so will the Jaco tunes. A Jaco-focused documentary has very recently been released (more details here), with an accompanying soundtrack, as well as brand new live Weather Report tracks. Jaco's music remains fresh and his contribution to the music world forever relevant.

Lend an open ear and listen live on Tuesday at 9AM, if you can. As always, if you miss the live Alloy show this week you can always catch the all-music, 24/7 “Alloy” station.
