So many fine new releases and new tracks to share this week it was challenging to narrow the choices down to an amount that would fit into the weekly show’s time format. Highlights include a new Blue Note recording, Blue Note All-Stars: Our Point of View that features a couple of Wayne Shorter compositions, one that features Wayne and Herbie Hancock revisiting, reimagining really, the great “Masquelero,” and another that features a stellar lineup covering the classic “Witch Hunt.” Finally, time was spent exploring the deeply influential guitarist, Terje Rypdal’s catalog. Two older Rypdal tracks (see playlist) were featured along side a track from the recently released Rypdal tribute album, Sky Music: A Tribute to Terje Rypdal (read more about the album) that features Rypdal’s compositions interpreted by an absolutely stellar band. We listened to the Nels Cline track, “What Comes After” from this excellent release. All in all it was a jammed pack show this week! Checkout the full playlist to see the other new tracks featured.
