A few days ago I finally got a chance to watch Jaco the latest documentary about legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius. It is an excellent, illuminating, emotional, and beautiful portrait painted by brushstrokes of interviews with friends, family, colleagues, musicians, against a canvas of archival footage spanning his entire life and career. Highly recommend watching it. In light of this, I will spend some time during this week's show to play some more Jaco (and Jaco-related) music as well as share my thoughts about the film. Staying with the theme of movies and music, I am also going to play some music from Trumbo (another movie recently viewed with a very fine soundtrack) as well as music that is not part of a soundtrack. Instead, these are tracks that sound to me like music in search of a film. Lastly, there will also be time set aside to play some more favorites from 2015 and more. A full plate of sounds this week!
Lend an open ear and listen live on Tuesday at 9AM, if you can. As always, if you miss the live Alloy show this week you can always catch the all-music, 24/7 “Alloy” station. Want more "Alloy" on your mobile device? Listen to "Alloy: A Mixture of Music and Conversation," the premier episode of Alloy's new podcast featuring bassist, composer, and recording artist, Chris Lightcap.
Thanks for listening!
