Nexus

Bill Frisell and Dave Douglas

Musically, I gotta say, I love March. Why? March is a month that includes two significant “jazz birthdays”—guitarist Bill Frisell and trumpeter Dave Douglas share birthdays in the month of March (the 18th and 24th, respectively). This week’s Alloy show will feature extended sets of music from these two quintessential music creatives. Both have pushed the envelope and expanded not just the jazz genre, but in their own singular way they have created music that transcends traditional boundaries and genres. Aside from their own name-led configurations (Bill Frisell Quartet, Dave Douglas Quintet, to name just a couple) and their unique collaborative recordings (Bill Frisell, Ron Carter, and Paul Motian & Douglas’ Keystone, not to mention numerous others), I will also feature music from the album they recorded together (their musical “nexus”), Strange Liberation. It promises to be a very special musical celebration this week and one that could very well be an annual “Alloy” tradition.

Lend an open ear and listen live on Tuesday at 9AM, if you can. Also, don't forget that you can listen to all of the music from last week's “Click” show right from the comfort of your browser (click here). Thanks for listening!
