Baseball season is in full swing! In crafting the artwork for this week's show, I couldn't resist playing with the word "bass" (the instrument) and "base" (as in baseball or stolen base). In fact, this week's show kicked off with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra's great cover/rendition of the John Lewis jazz classic, "Two Bass Hit" from their latest The Music of John Lewis. Actually, numbers featured prominently in this weeks playlist in that several artists were represented by more than one track—sometimes two (Dave Douglas' Strange Liberation), and even three (Ed Palermo Big Band). Sometimes, and this week is a good example, it is terribly difficult to pick just one composition by any one artist—sometimes more is better! Checkout this week's playlist to see the multitude of music featured.
Also, please checkout the fourth Alloy podcast episode featuring my conversation with musician and new renaissance artist, Elizabeth A. Baker. You can find all you need to know about that episode here. Lend an open ear and give it a listen. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Elizabeth and hope you do as well.
Finally, don't forget that you can listen to all of the music from the last episode, “Horn-o-copia” (click here). This week's artwork, “two bass hit” is by yours truly. Thanks for listening!
