I was away from the microphone for the last couple weeks due to things demanding my time, focus, and energy outside Alloy. All good stuff, but I was spread a bit thin during the period. The upside of being away from the show for a bit means more music stacks up that I want to share! If you have not watched the excellent PBS documentary, Soundbreaking, I highly recommend checking it out. Re-watching one of the early episodes from the series inspired the short set of 70's classics by Sly & the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, and Cat Stevens. Sadly, jazz guitarist and deeply influential musician, John Abercrombie, passed away on August 22nd leaving behind a tremendous catalog of music. Guitarist Nels Cline shared a moving and very heartfelt tribute to John Abercrombie and the significance he played in shaping Nels' guitar approach. I invite you to read his piece here. As a tribute to John Abercrombie, I played a couple of tracks from two of his ECM releases. Finally, as you will see by this week's playlist, new music, and nearly new music, filled in around these featured artists to round out this week's playlist. It was a full two hours! Finally, don't forget that you can listen to all of the music from the last episode, “50...and all that jazz” (click here). This week's artwork, “more that meets the eye” is by yours truly. Thanks for listening!
