1959: The Year That Changed Jazz

What does Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, Dave Brubeck's Time Out, Charles Mingus' Ah Um, Ornette Coleman's Shape of Jazz to Come all have in common? Believe it or not, all four were released in 1959(!)...all four of these monumental albums hit the music world in 1959, arguably one of the most influential years in jazz. This week's show explored music from these albums as well as other influential tracks from that year. I encourage you to enjoy (via YouTube) the fantastic BBC Four documentary, "1959: The Year That Changed Jazz," a fabulously concise, rich, and compelling documentary profiling four albums from this groundbreaking year in jazz.
